City of Chatfield Continuing Engineering and Planning Services
Chatfield, MN
The City of Chatfield is a southeastern Minnesota municipality located in Olmsted and Fillmore Counties. Chatfield has experienced substantial growth and expansion of services in the past decade. This has created the need for ongoing consulting services for the City as it has not been able to keep up with the growth through staff support. MBI was selected as the city engineer since 1950 and provides ongoing engineering and planning expertise to the community.
In April of 2010, the city initiated a Downtown Study to review a multitude of public amenities and aesthetics for pedestrian and vehicular circulation. The study included approximately 34 square blocks of the urban core.
Specific study areas included the following:
- Defining an overall downtown historical district
- Defining a historic housing district
- Defining a historic cultural district
- Conducting property owner interviews
- Conducting pedestrian walking surveys
- Land and building uses
- Traffic circulation, parking and access
- Downtown apartment usage and vacancy
- Sidewalk analysis
- Placement of banners and light poles
- Urban core landscape areas
