Dave Graner Wetland Bank
Kellogg, MN
This 55-acre site consisted of farmland with 1.65 acres of seasonally-flooded wetland. This is the first wetland bank in Wabasha County and is among the largest banking projects in SE Minnesota.
A natural 65-acre wetland complex, a trout stream and the floodplain of the Mississippi River adjoin the site and provide seasonal side hill seeps and fluctuating groundwater levels that were assessed and are utilized in the wetland creation and restoration design. The project required a wetland bank plan that included a site plan, seeding plan, topographic survey, grading plan, erosion control plan and monitoring plan which are all requirements of the Minnesota Wetland Conservation Act approval process.

In total, 35 acres of type 2 fresh wet meadows, 4.5 acres of type 3 shallow marsh and 16 acres of native upland prairie were created on-site. Grading for the project was completed in June 2009, monitoring of the project is currently in year one of the five-year monitoring period for wetland bank certification.
